The Valencian Community Sailing Federation (FVCV) held one of the most important events in its sporting calendar this weekend: the 2025 Regional Cruising Championship. The event, hosted by the Real Club Náutico de Calpe and part of the Rumbo Solidario Trophy, brought together 23 crews distributed across three categories: Group A, Group B, and Group C, for two intense days of competition.
The regatta has added value for the fleet, as it counts as a scoring event in the race for a spot in this season's Spanish Cruising Championship. The qualifying trio is completed by the Presidents' Memorial, held in March at the CN Altea, and the City of Valencia Trophy, which will take place in June at the RCN Valencia. The Valencian Community's national representatives will be determined after this final event.
In Group A, the victory went to Alitán 4, from the Real Club Náutico de Dénia, skippered by José María Pineda. The team managed to snatch the lead from Ítaca (RCN Calpe) in the final race, after a close second place finish, becoming regional champions. Nacho Campos' Tanit 6 (RCR Alicante) completed the podium.
"Winning this championship is very important because now we're starting the season and this regatta helps us see where we stand, with our sights set on the SM La Reina Trophy, the Copa del Rey, etc.," said Jorge Pineda, crew member of the Alitán 4. "Being able to go to Baiona to compete in the National Championship is a great incentive and the truth is that finishing first after having done two off-line races is a great achievement, so we're very happy," he added.
In Group B, the clear leader was José Ballester's Falapouco (RCN Torrevieja), who won three of the four races. Gustavo Gastaldi's Team Tac (RCN Dénia) took second place, while Joaquín Pérez's Va de Bo (CN Villajoyosa) completed the podium.
Group C was led from start to finish by Ascaló (CN JáveaLeocadia García's 1000-horsepower scull, which claimed three victories and was crowned undisputed champion. This was followed by Vladislav Goryachev's Chrono (CN Campomanes) and Pau Marín's El Calama (RCN Calpe), which climbed to third place after a brilliant performance in the final race.
"Competing in the regional competition was a challenge for us, because we didn't know how we would fare compared to the other boats. We felt very good; the conditions in this area are always excellent, and we're very happy to be sailing in Calpe and to have achieved these results," said Beatriz Domínguez, a crew member on the Ascaló.
