March is always the month of women's rights in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The Department of Equality, with the collaboration of the Association of Women, the European Union of Women Marina Alta, the Multiesport Club and the Municipal School of Youth Football, has prepared numerous proposals for all tastes and ages that will start on March 2 and will last until the 9th of the same month.
This year, International Women's Day in Poble Nou focuses on "paying a sincere tribute to all working women, with special recognition to the pioneers of the municipality, who with their effort and courage paved the way for current generations," explained the Councilor for Equality, Isa Garrido. This is how the project begins Living Memory. Tribute to working women of the past and present, which is expected to continue to recover the testimonies of poor women.
As the backbone of the week, the documentary has been prepared Memoria Viva, which collects the history The documentary features seven women from Pobla who, as Garrido highlighted, "in a time when women were relegated to housework and nursing, broke down barriers and forged their own paths in the working world outside the home. All of them are older women with fascinating stories to tell, and from whom we have much to learn." The film will be presented on Saturday, March 8, at 19:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
That same evening, at 19:00 p.m., photographer Jessica Hooghiemstra will present her exhibition The Women of Benitatxell, which will be on display at the Social Centre throughout the week, starting on Monday 3 March in the afternoon. In the morning, the little ones will also be able to enjoy storytelling with a gender perspective Caramel Rose, which will take place at the Municipal Library at 11:00 a.m.
In addition, the programme, which will begin on Sunday 2 March, will include events designed for all audiences. Thus, that afternoon, the students of the municipal sports schools of the Benitatxell Multiesport Club will offer a dance demonstration in the tent in the Plaça de les Pesqueres.
The week will start on Monday, March 3 with the opening of the photography exhibition The Women of Benitatxell and the screening of short films for equality with a discussion by Marina Gilabert, from the Clásicas y Modernas association. Afterwards, the Associació de Dones will offer sweets and mistela.
It will continue on Tuesday, March 4 with the urban walk and snack at the l'Abiar wash house, where the archaeologist in charge, Humberto García, will offer an explanation of the recovery work at the wash house; and on Wednesday, March 5 with the film forum The grandmother and the stranger with its director, Sergi Miralles, and Arminda García, with sweets and mistela by the Association of Women.
On Thursday 6 March there will be two evening events: at the Social Centre, the Associació de Dones will offer a chocolate snack with mona and games, and will hold its ordinary general assembly. At the municipal football field, the girls from the women's football team of the Poble Nou de Benitatxell Municipal School of Youth Football will play host to a friendly match with the women's team of UD Benissa. In addition, they will have the special presence of Gema Pastor, goalkeeper of the first team of València CF Femenino.
To finish off the weekend and put the finishing touch on this comprehensive program, on Friday, March 7th, organized by the European Union of Women Marina Alta, there will be a demonstration and exercises of ball with Pam Small and the book launch They are not heroines by its author, Pilar Brotons. On Sunday 9 March, the week will close with the traditional fellowship meal of the Association of Women and the concert of female voices by the Choir of La Rectoria.
