The El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Town Council has taken a firm step in its digital transformation and sustainability strategy with the implementation of new technological infrastructure. Starting from August 4th, 2026The municipality is reinforcing the fire prevention forestry using smart sensors and a LoRaWAN network, with the aim of monitoring the environment and moving towards a smarter and more connected management model.
The project includes the installation of connected sensors and weather stations. These devices are capable of recording crucial parameters in real time, such as temperature, humidity, and wind, as well as other environmental variables that are key to assessing the risk of forest fires.
Thanks to the information gathered, the capacity for early detection, prevention, and response to potential emergencies can be significantly improved. This initiative is part of the municipal strategy to increase the area's resilience to the effects of climate change and, consequently, reduce the risk of forest fires.
Technology at the service of territorial protection
The information obtained will allow the municipality to have a more precise understanding of environmental conditions. This, in turn, will facilitate faster and more effective decision-making regarding civil protection and natural resource management, fundamental aspects for the safety of citizens and the preservation of heritage.
The project also includes the implementation of a municipal LoRaWAN network. This is a long-range, low-power wireless communication technology designed to connect IoT (Internet of Things) devices distributed throughout the municipality.
This infrastructure will serve as the foundation for the development of future smart solutions. These include remote water management, consumption control, and monitoring of... public services, environmental management and the improvement of the efficiency of municipal resources, consolidating Benitatxell as a smart municipality and destination.
The governing team emphasized that "With this project, we are incorporating a technological infrastructure that will allow us to anticipate risk situations and continue moving towards a smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable municipality. Technology must be at the service of the citizens, helping us to protect our natural environment, optimize public resources, and improve our response capacity to any eventuality."
This performance is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in the Destination of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, financed by the European Union through the funds Next Generation USin the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.
