The municipal group Compromís per Teulada i Moraira has presented a motion to the Town Hall to address the alarming situation of the forest mass in the area, seriously affected by drought, climate change and the spread of pests such as the pine borer. Tomicus destruensThe motion will be debated at the next municipal meeting, where approval will be sought for a set of urgent measures to stop the mass death of pine trees and other plant species.
The initiative arises in response to the serious environmental crisis affecting the Mediterranean forests of Teulad Moraira and the Marina Alta region, where the accumulation of dead trees has significantly increased the risk of forest fires. According to Compromís, the situation not only threatens biodiversity, but also puts the landscape and the local economy at risk.
Among the actions proposed by Compromís, the organization highlights the following:
- Collaboration with Valencian universities to carry out studies on the causes of pine death.
- Creation of a monitoring system using drones and satellite images to monitor the affected areas.
- Application of phytosanitary treatments to control the spread of pests.
- Development of a reforestation plan with native drought-resistant species.
- Awareness and environmental education campaigns aimed at the local population and visitors.
- Call for meetings with other municipalities in the Marina Alta to coordinate joint actions.
- Request for technical and financial support from the Generalitat Valenciana and the Provincial Council of Alicante.
Compromís also requests technical and financial support from the Generalitat Valenciana and the Alicante Provincial Council, and proposes holding meetings with other municipalities in the Marina Alta to coordinate joint actions.
The organisation stresses that the forest crisis requires immediate and coordinated action between the different administrations, and calls for the protection of the natural environment of the region, whose preservation is essential to guarantee the sustainable future of the territory.
