The Valencian Ministry of Health today established the Nursing Care Committee of the Valencian Community, a new technical advisory body whose objective is to analyze, plan, and propose improvements to the organization of nursing care within the public health system. This committee was created in a context marked by an aging population, an increase in chronic illnesses, and the need to guarantee quality care. paymentsequitable and evidence-based measures for the citizens of the Valencian Community. The inaugural meeting was chaired by the Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, along with the Regional Secretary of Health, Asunción Perales.

The Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, stated that this Committee "represents the consolidation of an ethical, scientific, and professional commitment to people's health." He also emphasized that the establishment of this Nursing Care Committee in the Valencian Community demonstrates that "investing in the structuring, visibility, and leadership of nursing care translates directly into a safer and more efficient healthcare system, a more cohesive, equitable, and sustainable health system, as well as more humane care that is closer to the true needs of patients and their families."

It is worth noting that the progressive consolidation of the strategic lines promoted by the Ministry of Health since the creation of the Community, Hospital, and Support Unit Nursing Skills Development Service has made it possible to establish this collegiate body. This body allows for the integration of knowledge and experience from professionals in different healthcare settings, the analysis of the nursing care model, and the formulation of proposals aimed at improving its planning, organization, and development.

Key functions of the committee

The functions of the Nursing Care Committee of the Valencian Community include analyzing the current nursing care model. It also includes proposing technical criteria for determining staffing levels, developing and monitoring proposals on nursing staff ratios, and advising the relevant bodies on human resource planning and management.

The Committee may also propose quality and safety indicators related to nursing care. It may also issue technical reports at the request of the Regional Ministry of Health, with the collaboration of the various management bodies of the Ministry.

Composition and dependence of the new body

The new body will report directly to the Regional Ministry of Health, under the coordination of the Ministry's Social and Healthcare Coordination and Integration Service. It also includes eight members, among them representatives from Primary and Hospital Care within the Interdepartmental Healthcare Groups (ASI) of Valencia, Castellón, and Alicante.

The Nursing Care Committee of the Valencian Community will act as a specialized working group to evaluate the current nursing care model in the Valencian Community, identify needs and formulate proposals for improvement aimed at planning more closely aligned with the demographic and territorial characteristics of the territory.
