On August 2th, XNUMXGata de Gorgos hosted with remarkable success the I Festes de Gata de Gorgos Chess Tournament, an event that brought together numerous participants, players from different clubs and towns in the Valencian Community, and was coordinated and refereed by Francisco Morató.
Despite coinciding in the calendar with other tournaments held in cities such as Alicante, Oliva and ValenciaThe championship had an outstanding response from the chess players, who gathered in Gata de Gorgos to compete in this first edition.

In the overall standings, the victory went to FIDE Master Fausto Castellá García, representative of Xeraco Chess ClubThe second position was occupied by Joaquim Romeu Juan, Chairman of the Chess Club Dénia, while third place went to the also FIDE Master Vicente Cano Jiménez, from the Club d'Escacs Alonis de La Vila Joiosa.
High level among the youngest players
The tournament also reserved a space for the categories of Development. In Sub-14, the winner was Leo Úbeda, from Orba. Second place went to Andrei Chira, from Calpe, while the third-place finisher was Jonathan Chiraalso from the municipality of Calpe.
The organization highlighted the high level shown by the young participants, emphasizing the good moment that grassroots chess is experiencing in the region and in the Valencian Community.
