The Ondara Town Hall will pay tribute this Friday, September 26th, at 19:00 PM to the five local athletes who were part of the Valencian Team at the 2025 European Youth Hand-Pilota Championship, held in Ath, Belgium, from September 3rd to 6th. The event will take place in the Cloister and will include the participation of the Department of Sports, directed by Jordi Ruiz, who will present a gift of recognition to the protagonists.
The Valencian team put in a brilliant performance in the tournament, winning a total of eight medals: two golds (U17 men's one-wall and U19 women's one-wall), four silvers (U15 men's one-wall, U15 women's one-wall, U17 women's one-wall, and women's llargues), and two bronzes (women's and men's international competition). These results earned the team the overall runner-up spot in the women's category and a bronze in the men's category.
The awards will include Arnau Mas, European Under-17 One-Wall Champion; Alma Contrí, European Under-15 One-Wall Runner-Up; Félix Peñarrubia and Rubén Teruel, members of the national team and overall bronze medallists at the championship; and Juanma Garrido, coach and national team manager of the Valencian National Team at the EuroJove 2025. All of them maintain a close connection with local sport: Mas and Contrí are players at the Ondara Municipal Pilota School; Peñarrubia and Teruel are members of the Ondara Pilota Club; and Garrido, in addition to being a national team manager, is the coordinator of the same school.
The mayor of Ondara, José RamiroHe emphasized that "these European successes are the result of constant work, personal effort, and the support for grassroots sports that we provide through our institutions." For his part, the Councilor for Sports, Jordi Ruiz, noted that "the Ondara Municipal Pilota School is doing excellent work, and these results at the European level are the best proof of that."
