The Pedreguer Town Council has commemorated the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as a show of support and solidarity with the Sahrawi people. To mark this anniversary, the city council has hung the Sahrawi flag on the balcony of the Town Hall, a symbolic gesture intended to highlight the municipality's commitment to the defense of human rights, international justice, and the right to self-determination of peoples.
The raising of the Sahrawi flag is part of the institutional actions promoted by the City Council to publicly reiterate its position regarding the Sahrawi cause. According to the council, this action seeks to reinforce historical memory and the demand for a just solution to the conflict.
The Councilor for Solidarity of the Pedreguer City Council, Ferran Lloret, emphasized that "from Pedreguer we want to reiterate our firm support for the Sahrawi people on the 50th anniversary of the SADR. Hanging their flag on the City Hall balcony is an act of remembrance, recognition, and denunciation of a situation that has dragged on for far too long."
The councilor also emphasized that "the government of Pedreguer has always stood by the Sahrawi population, as demonstrated by the various cooperation projects promoted over the years in the areas of food security and health, improvement of the water network, as well as twinning initiatives and solidarity exchange."
In this regard, he added that "this constant work reflects the municipality's willingness to contribute, from the local level, to improving the living conditions of the Sahrawi people and keeping their cause alive."
With this institutional action, the Pedreguer City Council reaffirms its commitment to international cooperation and solidarity, while expressing its willingness to continue supporting projects that promote social justice and the dignity of peoples.
