The Calp City Council has received, dated 7 September 2026, the technical report of the Institute of Coastal Ecology (IEL) corresponding to the annual cycle July 2025-June 2026 of the Coastal Monitoring Network, which assesses the environmental quality of the waters of its marine coastline and confirms an optimal or good condition at its four sampling stations, endorsing the excellent state of conservation of its beaches.
Results of the coastal monitoring program
The sampling program has been underway since 2016 September And, since last year, it has combined hydrographic data provided by the Copernicus satellite with its own quarterly sampling. The stations analyzed correspond to La Fossa beach, Cantal Roig beach, Puerto Blanco beach, and Les Urques.
The report confirms that the four sampling stations along the Calp coastline present an optimal or good environmental quality status. Specifically, La Fossa beach and Cantal Roig beach maintain optimal quality. This is because they have not shown, at any point in the historical record, figures exceeding the limits established by regulations.
Specific rating of the beaches
The beaches of Puerto Blanco and Les Urques have received a good quality rating. However, both resorts are currently in optimal condition for the current annual cycle, corresponding to the period July 2025-June 2026.
In the case of Les Urques, the "good" rating is due to a single anomalous value detected in the entire series of samples. This corresponds to a chlorophyll reading provided by the Copernicus satellite. August de 2024The rest of the indicators have always remained within the limits set by the legislation.
Regarding Puerto Blanco beach, the report indicates that its diagnosis is due to some anomalous value recorded between 2022 and 2025This was possibly related to the restructuring and refurbishment work carried out at the adjacent marina. No figures exceeding the legal limit have been recorded outside of this period, including the current annual cycle.
The report also highlights good water oxygenation levels and normal salinity and pH values at all four stations analyzed. These are typical of the Mediterranean marine environment, along with low levels of suspended solids and moderate turbidity. Furthermore, the report notes slightly higher than expected temperatures at all stations, both during the summer and winter periods.
Municipal commitment and vision for the future
The Councillor for the Environment, Pere Moll, emphasized that "these results confirm that Calp's beaches maintain an excellent state of conservation, which is the result of ongoing work in coastal protection and rigorous monitoring over the years." He added that "we will continue to support this type of independent scientific monitoring, which allows us to detect any anomalies early and act accordingly to preserve our marine environment."
For her part, the mayor of Calp, Ana SalaSala pointed out that "the quality of our waters is one of Calp's main assets as a tourist destination and as a place to live, and this data supports the City Council's commitment to sustainability and environmental protection." She added that "we will continue working to ensure that our coastline remains a benchmark for environmental quality in the Valencian Community."
