As reported Ondara Sense Crueltat AnimalThe group has sent a letter to each of the three political forces represented in the Ondara City Council to request that the entry of minors to the bullfights planned in the town during the next month of August be limited.
According to the organization, the request is based on the fact that these types of bullfighting events involve, in their opinion, "the violence of torturing the animal to death," and therefore they consider it necessary to establish access restrictions to protect the child and adolescent population.
Appeal to UN recommendations
In the document sent to the municipal political representatives, the group indicates that its request is based on the recommendations of UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, an organization that in 2018 urged the Spanish government to prohibit the attendance of minors under 18 years of age to Shows bullfighting enthusiasts.
According to the document, the recommendation was intended to prevent the possible harmful effects that bullfighting could have on children and adolescents.
Reference to the future modification of the LOPIVI
The association also cites statements made by the Minister of Youth and Children, Sir RegoIn December, when he assured that the Ministry had prepared a modification of the Organic Law on Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents against Violence (LOPIVI).
According to the document, this modification could be approved by the Council of Ministers and would include the recommendation made by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child regarding the attendance of minors at this type of show.
Likewise, the group reproduces one of the statements attributed to the minister, in which she stated that: "Any omission, delay or practice that compromises the protection of minors should be identified, investigated and remedied."
Warning about possible regulatory changes
The group concludes its statement by warning the Ondara City Council of the possibility that the modification of the LOPIVI will be approved before the bullfights scheduled for August.
Therefore, it believes that the municipal corporation should take this scenario into account to avoid, as the entity itself states, the possibility of incurring an eventual illegality if the new regulation were to come into force before the celebration of the bullfighting festivities.
