The Pedreguer City Council, in collaboration with the animal association Els Poets and a network of 136 volunteers, has consolidated its comprehensive management model for feline colonies through the Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) method, surpassing the 171 sterilizations in the last fiscal year according to the campaign data 2025This commitment focuses on animal welfare, public health, and community relations in the municipality.

The municipality of Pedreguer maintains its leading status in the management of feline colonies through the systematic application of the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) method. This model is based on the principles of animal welfare, public health, and community coexistence, with institutional coordination between the Pedreguer Town Council and the animal welfare association Els Poets, responsible for colony management, registration, and volunteer coordination, being a cornerstone of the system.

Structured collaboration between the administration and the social fabric has made it possible to implement effective, sustainable actions aligned with current regulations on animal protection.

An effective and sustainable management model

Currently, Pedreguer has 58 feline colonies registered, with an approximate population of 531 copies under sanitary control and technical monitoring. During the last fiscal year, more than 171 sterilization procedures, a figure that, according to campaign data 2025, significantly exceeds the usual standards in municipalities with similar characteristics.

From a technical point of view, the CER method has made it possible to stabilize the population density of the colonies, preventing their uncontrolled growth and significantly reducing the associated impacts, such as neighborhood nuisances, health and hygiene risks and the deterioration of the urban environment.

In terms of population control, 37 colonies have reached the level of "total control", with the 100% of the sterilized individuals.
