PSPV-PSOE of Alicante denounces 70 million cuts to the province's budget from the Generalitat

21 March 2025 - 12: 03

The general secretary of PSPV-PSOE Rubén Alfaro, from the province of Alicante, has strongly criticized a 70 million euro cut in investments for the province in 2025, approved by the PP in the plenary session of the Consell with the support of Vox.

"If a president of the Valencian Government from Alicante presents and approves a budget that undermines the general public services of our province in this way, there's little Alicante left. Mazón has already earned the dislike of being in the Valencian Community, and now he's working to disregard his province," Alfaro stated.

The Socialist leader has denounced that "the cuts affect sectors of the society which we socialists consider fundamental to maintaining the well-being of our citizens. Public healthcare, the education"Investment in innovation and industry, in democratic memory, in the promotion of Valencian or in infrastructure, cannot depend on partisan will, on a pact with the far right that allows the current president to remain in office."

Along these lines, Alfaro has focused on budget cuts for strategic projects such as the Ellis Alicante Foundation and the Valencian Innovation Agency, which in his opinion represents "a clear step backward." "The PP is abandoning the path of contributing to and leading the transformation of the Valencian Community's productive model toward smart, sustainable, socially cohesive economic growth aligned with all technological advances, in order to redistribute these investments to serve its own interests," he asserted.

The provincial secretary general also warned about the danger of ignoring the reality of climate change. "We are experiencing the DANA, and the people of Valencia have not yet recovered from this climate impact, and we are headed by a regional council that continues to make cuts in this area and is moving away from the Green Deal, as incredible as it may seem," he denounced.

On the other hand, Alfaro criticized the fact that "Mazón is embracing the dangerous tenets of Vox that promote xenophobia and anti-Europeanism." In this regard, he emphasized that "the province of Alicante has always been known for being a welcoming land, of which we are proud. It is the province in Spain with the most foreigners (behind Madrid and Barcelona), and this type of paradigm, far removed from Europe, can only lead to a population exodus and even a flight of foreign capital investment, which is also so important for our economic and business sector."

Alfaro made these statements during a meeting with activists from the Vega Baja region held in Torrevieja. Other speakers included Bárbara Soler, the Socialist spokesperson for Torrevieja City Council; Joaquín Hernández, the mayor of Dolores and secretary of the Vega Baja region; Amparo Serrano, the mayor of Callosa de Segura; Noemí Cutillas, the first deputy mayor of Rafal; and Ricardo Hurtado, the general secretary of Almoradí.
