OPINION Enrique Moll, mayor of Pego
Now three years ago, our territory is going to experience one of the biggest disasters that the pegolins and pegolines can remember in recent decades, the fire that is going to originate in the village of Vall d'Ebo and that will also affect part of its municipal terme and others such as that of Vall de Gallinera, Vall d'Alcalà, among d'altres. Ultimately, a total of 12.150 hectares were destroyed by the FOC.
It is a turment, the one of the fires, that is estiu rere estiu patim to our peninsula. Of fet, hui mateix, world fire prevention day, there have been activities focused on Lleó, Càceres, Ourense or Zamora. Focs, some of them, have cost vines. Our territory is on red alert due to the extreme risk of fires caused by high temperatures.
It is in these cases of crisis that it is possible to verify the involvement of political leaders. Various headlines have reached the news of the darrers regarding the actions of the highest officials of the autonomous communities who are supporting the violence of the flames. At the moment it seems that it is more important to throw out the blame on others, and on others, than to work as hard as possible to put an end to these tragedies that affect everyone.
The fires of hui and the actions of those responsible em fan remember (hui més que mai) the professionalitat with which act many of those who in 2022 have the responsibilities. At 1 o'clock in the morning of that fateful incident, the Police Head was going to notify that a fire had broken out at the Vall d'Ebo municipal terme and that something very serious seemed to have occurred. Quickly I will contact the councilors who are in Pego and at the same time on the 2nd of the morning and we will go to the PMA that is going to install in the Vall d'Ebo. There they worked with the coordination captain J.Maria Àngel (at that time regional secretary of emergencies for PSPV) and Javier Sendra (deputy of emergencies for Partit Popular). Furthermore, the rest of the companies in the government team interrupt the six vacancies (which for some are overvalued) and in addition, Pego is coordinating relief actions for those affected.
During the 10 days that the FOC will present our muntanyes, the figures of J.Maria Àngel and Javier Sendra will be present. In fact, the first will prioritize information. At all times those responsible for the affected municipalities (regardless of the political sign they form) will be present at the CECOPI meetings with the information updated at the moment that, for example, the most responsible for the autonomous policy of that moment, the president Ximo Puig and the councilor Gabriela Bravo.
I can affirm that Jose Maria Ángel's work will be enormous, always present to try to help all those affected by it. I ho go fer without raising my attention, without raising my eyes, without stridències, without bad comments, always trying to add up. Eixa is the image that those affected and those affected want to see from the policies in these situations of extreme crisis, it is the line to follow that many and many people have to follow in these moments.
