What to see in Pego: monuments, museums, churches and hermitages

Besides its enormous natural wealth, Pego has many interesting places to visit. This article can help you get an overview and organize your tour.

Next you have an index with all the points that we are going to deal with.

Monuments and historic center

El medieval urban framework, the remains of the wall and the only gate left standing, the Room Portal, are some of the urban attractions in Pego. But one of the must-sees is in the surroundings, in the Serra de Migdia (Sierra de Mediodia): the Castell d'Ambra, an old Islamic fortress of which there are numerous remains and that explains the past of this land.

Museums and Exhibition Halls

El Museu d'Art Contemporani It is located in the House of Culture and it has six rooms where you can admire hyperrealistic, symbolist or abstract works, among other styles.

El Ethnology Museum It is also in the House of Culture, so visiting the two rooms is easier. It shows all kinds of objects, tools and photographs about the crop that marks life in the municipality: rice.

Churches and hermitages

The church of Pego is the Church of the Assumption, which is interesting both outside and inside, as it houses important artistic pieces.

In Pego we find the hermitages of Sant Josep, Sant Sebastià, Sant Antoni and Sant Miquel. Two of them are within the town center (Sant Miquel and Sant Josep) and the other two are in the surrounding area (Sant Sebastià and Sant Antoni). The importance of visiting them lies in the fact that they help to create a more accurate picture of how the town has been built.
